I wanted to take this opportunity to reflect with you on SportsVision's recent activities and our plans for the future. After the 2006 transfer of the Camp SportsVision program to Slippery Rock University, SportsVision's efforts in 2007 focused on laying the groundwork for some exciting new programs.

Last summer SportsVision began assessing the need for a regular youth recreation program by mailing a survey to dozens of families with children who are visually impaired. We received great feedback including the types of activities the youth want, how far they are willing to travel, how much they can afford to pay for an event and much more. Using this data, we are working to develop a monthly recreation program that focuses more on leisure activities and less on competitive sports.

During 2007 SportsVision also held the first-ever Talent Showcase for VIPS (Visually Impaired Performers). The evening highlighted the abilities of Southwestern Pennsylvania’s children and adults who are visually impaired. At the first showcase, eight individuals sang, played instruments, or told jokes. It’s our goal to make the showcase an annual event that gets bigger and better each year.

While we continue offering our audio darts program and publishing our information-packed newsletter, SportsVision is focused on establishing new ventures for the leisure enjoyment of people who are visually impaired. You can help SportsVision's new and established efforts by making a tax-deductible financial contribution. Simply complete the PDF donation form and return it with your check made payable to SportsVision. Your contribution will help us create a community where people who are blind or visually impaired have the freedom to pursue and enjoy the many benefits of sports and leisure activities.

Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Sincerely,

Susan M. Lichtenfels, MS
